Results-driven applied researcher and project manager with extensive experience in Latin America, the United Kingdom and the United States. Proven fundraising ability and demonstrated record of maximizing impact of donor expenditures on projects implemented with indigenous peoples. Ten years of research and community engagement in Peru. PhD in Social Anthropology with practical and theoretical knowledge of development, governance, capacity building, indigenous rights, health, territory, education and conservation issues. Fluent in Spanish.

 

Relevant Experience

Applied Research & Community Capacity Building

Peru (2015-present)

•    Co-Founded SHARE-Amazonica (www.share-amazonica.org), and organization that promotes translation, intercultural collaboration and community filmmaking;

•    Designed and Implemented program on community capacity building, resulting in formation of indigenous political federation and establishment of Indigenous Cultural Heritage Center in Province of Atalaya, Ucayali Region, Peru;

•    Produced multiple short documentaries and community-made films (themes: territory, health, cultural heritage and community building) in collaboration with indigenous peoples, local institutions and Peruvian filmmaker;

•    Served as a consultant on strategy for community engagement, capacity building and conservation programming for ProPurus/Upper Amazon Conservancy; and

•    Coordinated and shared information on local issues with Instituto del el Bien Comun (IBC) and other regional indigenous organizations including: CORPIAA, OIRA, URPIA, ORAU and FIARIM.

 

Consultant, Multi-stakeholder Initiatives on Land Use Change & Systematic Review Synthesis

Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) (2017-Present)

•    Provided expertise on multi-stakeholder initiatives worldwide that combine development and conservation agendas at the subnational level;

•    Co-designed a protocol for a systematic search, carried out case study review, summarization and compilation, writing and analysis;

•    Co-authored final report based on case studies, including setting out analytical framework providing definitions and metrics for evaluating connections between contexts and program outcomes;

 

Consultant, Evaluation of CIFOR’s Evidence-based Forestry Initiative

Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) (2017-2018)

•    Evaluating CIFOR’s Systematic Reviews to set out recommendations for more effective aid/development projects; priority research gaps in CIFOR’s strategic planning; and lessons to improve research methodologies.

•    Authored report highlighting three primary themes: potential policy recommendations, improving research design and identifying future research gaps for CIFOR.

 

Documentary Producer, ‘Amahuaca Siempre’

Filmed on location in the Peruvian Amazon (2016-2017)

•    Raised $50,000 from private donors and funding organizations;

•    Recruited award-winning Peruvian filmmaker Fernando Valdivia to shoot and edit the documentary;

•    Used the filming process to build Amahuaca people’s capacity to document their own lives and community issues;

•    Screened ‘Amahuaca Siempre’ in academic and public setting throughout the United States and Peru, raising awareness of indigenous issues through viewings as well as press coverage of the documentary.

 

Consultant – Community Program Development

Global Emergency Group (2015-2017)

•    Developed strategies for facilitating inclusion of local peoples in response, recovery and rebuilding efforts following humanitarian crises; and

•    Participated in field training courses on safety and security in humanitarian relief contexts.
