Project leader: Maake, Caroline

Caroline Maake joined the Institute of Anatomy in 1990, where she followed up her career as a research and teaching assistant. Here, she received the title of an adjunct professor in 2011.

Her different research projects reflect the strong commitment of her group for interdisciplinary projects and basic research directly addressing clinical needs. The topics include urinary bladder dysfunction, photodynamic therapy, and most recently nanomedicine.

Caroline Maake studied human medicine at the Johannes-Gutenberg University of Mainz, before she moved to Zurich in 1990. Here, she received her MD in 1994 at the Institute of Anatomy. She was a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Internal Medicine and Physiology at the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Canada from 1995 to 1996. Caroline Maake eventually returned to the Institute of Anatomy of the UZH for her habilitation work, for which she received the venia legendi in 2004.

She was elected "Teacher of the Year" by the students of the Faculty of Medicine in 2009 and 2012.

Caroline Maake's research projects receive funding from the Swiss National Science Foundation, the Commission for Technology and Innovation, the European Comission’s 7th Framework Programme, and the Eurostars Programme.
